Log #1

LOG # 1. In today's reading, did the setting or any of the characters remind you of people or characters in your own personal life? Were any of the situations or events similar to your own life? How were they alike and how were they different?

The character named Henry is a young man who has daydreamed about enlisting in the Army for quite some time. His mother, on the other hand, seemingly disapproves of his desire to enlist; at this point it is not entirely clear what her disapproval stems from. Despite his mother’s disapproval, Henry amongst other young men actually enlists and heads off to Washington.

The only similarity that comes to mind as far as within my life and that of my friends and family is a cousin who pre-enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17. After graduating high school he went to boot camp about six months later. The difference is that his immediate family members did not disapprove of his choice and actually supported it. He lived with his grandfather and grandmother, and it was his grandfather who actually gave the approval for him to enlist at age 17.
